Durable Solutions Thematic Area

Published on 18 May 2026 at 23:22

Globally,  123.2 millions people—including refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and asylum seekers—continue to lack essential protection and sustainable solutions as a result of protracted and acute displacement. Durable solutions are key to end their displacement, restore their dignity and protect them.

Durable Solutions

Displacement affected populations have the rights to end their displacement and associated vulnerabilities. Durable solutions are long term solutions to address displacement for Internally displaced persons or refugees to rebuild their lives and are no long need protection assistance and care from the hosting societies or the state.

According to the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) Framework, a durable solution is achieved when internally displaced persons (IDPs) no longer have specific assistance and protection needs linked to their displacement, and can enjoy their human rights without discrimination on account of their displacement.

Abdulahi Consulting agrees to this categorisation in principle and advocates the inherent rights of the displaced to attain the ultimate protection outcomes and end their displacement. we work towards this objective in line with our core principles, mission and values and our moto People served, problem solved

Refugee Resettlement

Our Expert services in refugee and Asylum seekers resettlement work involves advising clients on the best practises and approaches to refugee resettlement including cultural orientation, service delivery and rights-based approaches to resettlement in line with international standards. in Ireland, we focus on international protection applicants and programme refugees helping clients develop tools and adopt strategies to resettlement.

We contribute our specialised expertise in local integration, area-based localisation, and the resettlement of refugees, asylum seekers, and international protection applicants within Ireland.

According to UNHCR Resettlement is the voluntary transfer of refugees from the country where they are registered to another country that agrees to admit them as refugees and grant them a residence permit.

Resettlement is not a right and there is no obligation on States to accept refugees for resettlement. Being recognized as a refugee does not automatically mean that you will be referred for resettlement.

There is a huge gap between the number of refugees in need of resettlement and the places made available by governments around the world, so resettlement is only available to a small number of the world’s refugees.
